Appalachian Trail thru-hiker legend has it that the trail through Pennsylvania is the rockiest of all 14 states, and can do severe damage to the feet. After hiking through the soft meadows of Virginia and Maryland, and the well maintained trail through West Virginia, thru-hikers reach Pennsylvania with the frightening tales of shredded boots, blistered feet and bloody ankles.
