3-1-09 Springer Mtn - Day 1 - Snowing!!!!

March 1st is the first day our our adventure. My Dad drove Dori and I from Charlotte to Springer Mountain, we arrived around 1:30pm, met up with Kat and her folks and headed up the trail to the top of Springer Mountain. It was snowing like crazy! The .9 mile hike was easy, met some other thru-hikers on the top, took some photos and a video (check them out) and started our 2,175 mile adventure. My dad hiked with us to the shelter (about 2.3 miles), we arrived in about an hour, set up for the night, had an awesome fire, caught a glimpse of the sunset and met some other thru-hikers. The snow stopped, but the wind was quite fierce (30+mph) and the temp was around 20 degrees. Mosey's having a blast, now if he'll just chill out so we both can go to sleep! Enjoy....
