While traveling north to Philadelphia to take Adam's youngest sister Sara to an internship interview, Marion and I received a call from Adam and she could tell right away something was wrong. The conversation started out, 'Mom, we have a situation', and we soon learned what had happened. Adam, Kat and Dori decided to take a short break and get a motel room in Helen while picking up their next food drop. They have hiked about 50 tough miles and felt that a good nights rest would be good for their bodies and soul. At a road crossing, a hunter picked up the three of them (and Mosey) and took them 9 miles to Helen and dropped them off at a motel. As they were checking into the motel, Adam realized Mosey's pack had been left in the back of the truck, which contained Adam's rain gear, Mosey's tent, and some other needed items. The hunter said he was heading back to the trail head to go hunting. Adam felt the best thing to do was hitch a ride back to the trailhead to see if he left the pack there, or if the hunter's truck was there. We prayed with him on the phone and off he went. We earnestly prayed the hunter's truck would be there, but in just a short while, Adam called us back to let us know there was no truck or hunter. He said the hunter knew they were staying at the motel, so maybe when he got home and found the pack in the truck he would return it. So that was our prayer all morning while driving to Philly.
About 1:30pm, the phone rings and it's Adam. The front desk of the motel had called his room and said he had a visitor at the front office. Who could that be? The hunter...with Mosey's pack. The hunter said once he got home, he found the pack and knew how important it was, so he came back to the motel and gave it to Adam....all we can say is Praise God...He is soooo good. I'm sure you can imagine the joy and thanksgiving in Adam's voice...how about that!?!?!
Other than the missing pack, things have been going well. Everyones body is sore and they have decided to slow down a bit over the next 2 weeks. This should help everyone and is a wise decision given their 5-month journey. Adam also mentioned that they have a new hiking partner (his trail name is Left Toe) from Ohio who is planning on hiking the trail with them.
