Today was a big day for Adam, Mosey, Dori and Kat...they completed the state of Georgia and entered North Carolina! Now only 13 more states and about 2,100 miles! They seem to be in good spirits, had a welcomed rest this weekend and re-calculated their daily miles for the next couple weeks...keep them in your thoughts and prayers in the coming week!
FYI...Georgia has about 75 miles of the trail, including the southern terminus at Springer Mountain (elevation 3,280 feet). An 8 mile (12 km) approach trail (not part of the AT) begins at the Amicalola Falls State Park visitor center. The approach trail and much of the trail in Georgia is often littered with items cast aside by overburdened hikers unprepared for the difficulties of the initial hike. At 4,461 feet (1,360 m), Blood Mountain is the highest point on the trail in Georgia.
